Now living in 18th-century Paris, Claire and Jamie are trying to infiltrate the French court to stop the Jacobite Rising (the Battle of Culloden) before it starts. In this episode:

Claire and Jamie face a new challenge as they try to evade the British army and Randall's relentless pursuit. Meanwhile, Claire's medical skills are put to the test as she tends to a wounded Highlander.

The episode begins with Claire and Jamie on the run from the British army, who are closing in on them. They take refuge in a small cottage, where they meet a young woman named Lillis (Jessica Reynolds). Lillis is a local who is sympathetic to the Jacobite cause and provides them with food and shelter.

We are introduced to the enigmatic Master Raymond at his apothecary and the formidable (and slightly terrifying) Comte St. Germain.
