Sorry Appa, busy with work. Will call this weekend. Suresh stood up
Ten years ago, Suresh had sold a piece of his ancestral land to make this film. He hadn't done it for fame. He had done it because he had a story eating him alive—a story about a father who waits for a letter that never comes, a story about the silence of empty houses in Kerala where the young have flown to Dubai or America, leaving the old to talk to the wind.
The hall was cavernous. He saw the four scattered souls who had bought tickets. An old couple in the front row, holding hands, perhaps looking for an escape from the afternoon heat. A young man in a hoodie, headphones around his neck, looking bored, perhaps waiting for a friend. And a middle-aged woman sitting alone in the ladies' section. The film was out of his head
The film began. There was no background music for the first ten minutes, just the ambient sound of a house: a pressure cooker whistling, a crow cawing, the sound of a chair scraping against the floor. It was Suresh’s life on screen.
