The series begins ten years after the end of Dragon Ball Z . Emperor Pilaf accidentally wishes Goku back into a child using the Black Star Dragon Balls. To prevent the Earth from exploding, Goku, Pan, and Trunks must travel into space to retrieve the scattered balls within one year.

Episodes 63 and 64 serve as a double-epilogue. Episode 64 ( Until We Meet Again ) is considered one of the most emotional endings in anime history, showing Goku watching over his descendants centuries later.
