Drop Dead Diva Deb

Over six seasons, the character arc of Deb was one of slow, painful acceptance. She stopped trying to turn Jane into a replica of her old self and began to respect the life Jane had built. She stopped pining for her old body and began to appreciate the strength and health of her new one.

Through Stacy, Deb was able to maintain a link to her past life. Stacy acted as the bridge between Deb’s superficial world of modeling and Jane’s intellectual world of law. Their friendship highlighted the theme that while romantic partners may come and go, the bond between best friends can survive death itself.

Throughout the series, Fred’s primary goal was to help Deb become the person she was meant to be, rather than just mimicking the person she used to be. He pushed her to accept her new reality. When Fred departed the series (and broke Stacy’s heart), his replacement, Luke, took a different approach. Luke tried to force Deb to let go of her past life entirely.
