VMFS (Virtual Machine File System) is a file system used by VMware to store virtual machines. While Windows 10 can read and write to various file systems, it lacks native support for VMFS. This paper proposes a comprehensive approach to enable Windows 10 to read VMFS, allowing users to access and manage VMware virtual machines from within Windows 10. We discuss the existing solutions, their limitations, and present a detailed design and implementation of a Windows 10 driver that can read VMFS.

If the goal is not just to read files but to interact with the VMFS volume as if it were on an ESXi host, a different approach is required. Windows 10 users can leverage virtualization technologies—such as VMware Workstation or Hyper-V—to run a nested ESXi instance. windows 10 read vmfs
VMFS is a file system developed by VMware to optimize storage for virtual machines. It provides features such as block allocation, journaling, and distributed file locking. VMFS is designed to handle large files and provide high performance for virtual machine storage. While VMFS is similar to other file systems like NTFS and ext4, it has some unique features that make it difficult for Windows 10 to read and write to it. VMFS (Virtual Machine File System) is a file
