Sheldon decides he wants a pet, but scientific research leads him to conclude dogs are too messy and emotional. Instead, he gets a fish — logical, quiet, and clean. Naturally, the fish dies within days. After a surprisingly heartfelt moment of grief, Sheldon goes full scientist: he buys multiple fish, names them all “Fish,” and starts running population experiments. Meanwhile, Mary tries to teach Sheldon about compassion, and George Sr. deals with the fallout of a stray dog Meemaw brings home.
Like many of Sheldon's early social endeavors, it doesn't exactly take off, but it gives us a hilarious look at his inability to compromise even for the sake of friendship.
