Install - Direct Play

To verify that DirectPlay has been installed successfully:

Launch the classic game that previously gave an error. If it starts networking or loads a saved game without complaining about DirectPlay, you're successful. To verify that DirectPlay has been installed successfully:

If a game specifically asks for DirectPlay Voice, go back to optionalfeatures > Legacy Components and also check (if listed – it's not present in all Windows versions). Note that DirectPlay Voice is largely unsupported on modern networks.

Check the game's page on PCGamingWiki for game-specific DirectPlay fixes, or look for a modern source port (e.g., OpenAge for Age of Empires II) that replaces DirectPlay with modern networking.

Open (right-click Start > Terminal (Admin) or Command Prompt (Admin)).
