This paper explores the narrative and thematic architecture of the survival horror video game Outlast 2 (2017), developed by Red Barrels. While the game is often noted for its graphic violence and jump scares, its core narrative serves as a critique of religious extremism and the malleability of faith. By analyzing the fictional "Testament of the New Ezekiel" and the villainous character Sullivan Knoth, this paper argues that Outlast 2 uses the setting of Temple Gate to depict a "Negative Theology"—a perverted inversion of Christian eschatology where the search for salvation leads only to self-destruction, fueled by the scientific interference of the Murkoff Corporation.
