The history of Somalia is marked by the resilience of its people. With a rich pastoral tradition, Somalis have historically been nomadic herders, moving across the arid landscapes with their livestock. This nomadic lifestyle, known as "pastoralism," has shaped Somali culture, influencing their social structures, poetry, and even their sense of humor.

The survey results indicate that 80% of Somali dog owners reported observing the doggy style mating posture in their dogs. The in-depth interviews revealed that this posture is widely accepted and considered a natural behavior in Somali dog breeding culture.

A mixed-methods approach was employed, combining both qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis methods. A survey of 100 dog owners in Somalia provided quantitative data on the prevalence of doggy style mating postures in Somali dogs. Additionally, in-depth interviews with 20 dog breeders and 10 veterinarians in Somalia offered qualitative insights into the cultural significance and factors influencing this behavior.

Dogs, regardless of their breed, exhibit a wide range of behaviors that are influenced by their genetics, environment, and training. These behaviors can include playfulness, guarding, herding, and various forms of communication.

This paper provides an overview of the doggy style mating posture in Somali dogs, highlighting its prevalence, cultural significance, and potential influencing factors. While this study contributes to our understanding of canine mating behaviors, further research is needed to explore the complexities of this behavior and its implications for dog breeding and welfare in Somalia.
