This subplot is a testament to how Young Sheldon has matured. What could have been a chaotic, laugh-track-filled sitcom delivery scene is instead handled with surprising realism and tenderness. The hospital scenes are chaotic, yes, but they ground the show in a way that reminds us of its Roseanne roots (thanks to the Connors connection via showrunner Bruce Helford and the casting of Laurie Metcalf’s daughter, Zoe Perry, as Mary).
