Inside the archive, black-and-white stills show Nakajima sweating through his undershirt, his head tilted awkwardly to peer through a slit in the neck of the monster. The suit was so heavy and rigid that Nakajima often had to be held upright by wires between takes because he could not support the weight alone. There was no ventilation; after hours of filming, the crew would pour cups of sweat out of the suit’s legs like water from a boot.
