The VFL operates under the mission to " make the invisible visible " by providing artists and designers with tools that advance real change. Unlike a standard service bureau, the lab is a self-service facility ; it emphasizes a "think with your hands" pedagogy where individuals must train in safety and procedure to execute their projects with autonomy. sva visible futures lab

At the heart of the Lab is its arsenal of 3D printing technologies. Unlike consumer-grade machines, the VFL houses professional-grade printers capable of rendering objects in resin, powder, and plastic with microscopic precision. Here, a character designer can hold a toy prototype in their hand hours after modeling it on a screen; a jeweler can print a wax casting mold for a ring that would be impossible to carve by hand.
