Murder 3 received mixed to positive reviews. Critics praised the atmospheric direction, strong performances (especially Hooda’s), and the unexpected climax. However, some felt the pacing was slow and that the erotic elements felt subdued compared to previous Murder films. Audiences appreciated the departure from formulaic thrillers, and the film was commercially successful, largely due to its music and Randeep Hooda’s rising star power.
The soundtrack, composed by the duo Rashid Khan (not to be confused with the sarod maestro) and Sharib-Toshi, became a huge hit. The title track "Jaanta Hai Mujhe" (sung by Toshi Sabri) and the soulful "Mat Aazma Re" (sung by Nikhil D’Souza) captured the film’s essence of obsession and pain. The music remains one of the film’s strongest assets, effectively enhancing the brooding, sensual mood.
The story revolves around Vikram (Randeep Hooda), a successful fashion photographer living in a luxurious hill station mansion. He is in a passionate but troubled live-in relationship with Roshni (Aditi Rao Hydari), a woman deeply in love with him, despite his cold, distant, and often cruel behavior. Vikram’s narcissism drives him to openly flirt with other women, leaving Roshni heartbroken.
Spoiler warning: The film’s climax delivers a shocking twist. It is revealed that Nisha is actually the vengeful sister of a woman Vikram had previously destroyed emotionally, leading to her suicide. Nisha stages her own murder to frame Vikram, exposing his manipulative and predatory nature. In the end, Vikram is killed in a car accident while trying to escape, and the film closes on a haunting note of poetic justice.
